Threshold
I stopped before the bridge. The last time I crossed its threshold I was warned never to return. Now it stretched before me again, daring me to take the first step towards inevitable judgement and possible damnation.
For nine years I had wandered. The memory of my mother’s eyes, drowning in tears, haunted me whenever I closed my own.
I looked at the note she had pressed into my palm before they pulled her away.
Genesis 28:15
It’s amazing how one word and two numbers can mean so much. I stepped forward, determined to see those eyes smile once more.
