Infinity – Friday Fictioneers

Published by

It’s Friday Fictioneers time again. The challenge is to write 100 words based on a weekly photo prompt chosen by our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Check out her blog for more information by clicking here. Apologies to my fellow writers for my lack of activity last week. It was quite a busy one and I didn’t get time to read or give feedback on as many stories as I would have liked. I’ve got to make a couple of train journeys this weekend which should improve my participation! As always thank you in advance to all who take the time to read, like or comment.

Infinity

“Do it!”

I obliged. Turning my thoughts inward, I reached for that secret place and touched infinity.

Suddenly I was everything: the clothes, the utensils, anything that once held a memory. Even the dust. I gathered all these pieces of myself and raised them up high.

“Whoa!”

I was them too. The ones who had bullied and teased but now stood in awe. Awe that would turn to fear. Fear to hate. I saw it all.

Such fragile things. So easily broken.

The lamps burned bright then shattered. I closed my eyes against the darkness and smiled at their screams.

That was a sinister revenge…but somehow i feel it’s deserved.

    Dear Thom

I can’t help but think of Carrie who used her mental powers to seek revenge. Well written and imaginative.

      Dear Rochelle

I can’t believe you used the C word! Haha. I wasn’t thinking of Carrie when I was writing but now all I can see are the similarities! Hopefully my character comes across slightly differently because they take revenge for things that haven’t necessarily happened yet, which throws up a moral dilemma. If you kill someone for something you know they are going to do but haven’t done yet, does it make the act any more right or wrong? Confused? I am!

Thanks for another interesting prompt. I will try and write something ‘infinitely’ more original next week!

It sounds like an epic moment in his life. And for some others too. Nicely done.

Thanks Sandra. Glad you enjoyed it. And you read the character as male which was interesting. I deliberately left no clues.

Just don’t pour out any pig blood. Actually, I didn’t really think of Carrie, so it worked well for me. Got into the character well.

This was dark to say the least. I liked the transition into the end. 🙂

Thanks Ifeoma. It went from positive to negative pretty quickly. That’s the danger with absolute power! Glad you liked it.

Very cool! The feeling of absolute power and the hunger for revenge really came through here. Great stuff!

I didn’t see/read Carrie, too scary for me. 🙂 Your story worked well for me. I loved the progression from deep introspection to brutal revenge.
