Hideaway

As the deluge curtails our escape plans, we seek shelter within a dense copse of trees like children playing hideaway. The storm rages against the world and so do you; both having age-old scores to settle. I fear neither, knowing both will calm in time.ย

Morning comes. I watch the sunโ€™s viridescent rays sneak through our protective canopy to dance playfully across your sleeping face, softening the worry lines I know so well.

โ€œI think I love you,โ€ I whisper. You do not stir. The eager breeze promises to keep my secret, but gossips with the leaves as it passes.

Written in response to Friday Fictioneers, a weekly 100-word writing challenge hosted byย Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.ย Come and play along!

Aw, lovely. I adore the breeze gossiping with the leaves. There’s a lot of potential here.

Oh, I have questions!โ€‚This was not a young couple, was it?โ€‚What was she raging against? How had life hurt her?โ€‚I looked up viridescent, which means what I thought, so I don’t have to ask that question :)โ€‚Why did his love for her have to stay a secret?
