We meet again! It’s time for another Friday Fictioneers entry. The challenge is to write a 100-word story in response to a weekly photo prompt chosen by our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Follow the link to her blog for more information. Thank you to all who take the time to read, like, or comment.

Schrödinger’s Fridge
“Who do you reckon’s inside?”
“Give over. There’s nothing and nobody inside.”
“Why’s it screwed shut? Who screws shut a fridge?”
“Makes it easier to carry. Stops the doors opening. He don’t want no kiddies or animals getting trapped.”
“Already full of kiddies and animals, I ‘spect,” he muttered. Then, “Why’s it so heavy? And why’s he paying us to shift it and not someone official? We should open it.”
“We’re not opening it,” I hissed. Right now, there could be anything inside, or nothing. Open it and we’d know for sure.
“Fuck it,” I said. “We’ll leave it here.”
Word count: 100
N.B. I agonised over the title, well aware that such a lazy and incorrect interpretation of the ‘Schrödinger’s Cat’ thought experiment might be enough to reduce certain types to howls (or meows) of frustration (not our FF community, obviously). Rest assured, it is very much deliberate and all part of the fun! However, feel free to educate me in the comments section if it helps to ease your tortured souls. 😉
