The Battle of Idur-Gu’un – Friday Fictioneers

Published by

Hello. It’s time for another Friday Fictioneers entry. The challenge is to write a 100-word story in response to a weekly photo prompt chosen by our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Follow the link to her blog for more information. A bit of a ‘nothing piece’ this week, but a ‘nothing piece’ is better than nothing. Thank you to all who take the time to read, like, or comment.

The Battle of Idur-Gu’un.

“Put it away, we’re in a restaurant! I’m sorry,” he said, turning to me. “She’s had her nose in that book all day.”

She ignored him, of course. I could see the evening going downhill rapidly. I’d never wanted to get involved with someone who had children. It was then that I noticed the title of the book.

“What chapter are you on?” I asked.

“The Battle of Idur-Gu’un.”

I stood up.

“We have to leave,” I said.

“Why?”

“She can’t read that here; it’s too incredible! She needs to be home and comfortable. Come on, we’ll get a takeaway.”

Word count: 100.

      Dear Rochelle,

It takes a fine parent to understand the importance of books. I had a bedtime but I could delay turning out the light for as long as I liked, provided I was reading!

      Best wishes,

      Thom

That is so thoughtful. I hope the girl realizes what a fine person her father is interested in!

That part is yet to be written, I’m afraid! Perhaps I’ll get around to it some day. Thanks, Neil.

Okay, I googled also. I see others did to. The title is fictional, right? It does sound “deep”. Sort of tricky, but it does your story proud. 😀

Haha! Thank you! Yes, the book is fictional. I was trying for a chapter title that screamed ‘Epic Fantasy Novel’. Now I’m intrigued to know exactly what happens at The Battle of Idur-Gu’un! Thank you for your comment.
