Hello. It’s time for another Friday Fictioneers entry. The challenge is to write a 100-word story in response to a weekly photo prompt chosen by our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Follow the link to her blog for more information. Thank you to all who take the time to read, like, or comment.

These vampiric thoughts

Immortality
I’ve never craved.
I’m haunted
By mere thoughts of old age.
But sometimes I wonder,
If all I knew were gone,
Yet I lived on,
Could I be reborn
As someone new?
Not bound by who I am,
Or what I’ve done.
A wicked fantasy, I know;
To squander love
In favour of a slate wiped clean as the unmarked grave.
Would I still fear the dark
And the monsters that lurk within?
Would the sun’s kiss
Burn my skin?
And would I be devoured
By these vampiric thoughts
That gnaw at me with teeth as sharp as sin?

Very poetic, Thom. It would be hard to outlive all the people you knew. I think people who yearn for that don’t consider the loneliness. Well done. 🙂 — Suzanne
