“Art”

Ms Farrell was rarely impressed with my efforts. Too safe, her red pen would scream.

The school’s art exhibition was my last chance to impress, but she walked past my neat little collection of pine cones, flowers, and leaves with barely a second glance.

Heart drumming harder than Keith Moon, I dipped my brush into the paint can and daubed the word Human in front of the meticulously stencilled Nature Table. A bottle of lighter fluid and the strike of a match completed the tableau.

My Human Nature Table earned me my first ‘A’ grade. It also got me expelled.

And was the school’s judgement the final word, or the art teacher’s, I wonder?

Ha. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Interesting take on the prompt.

Great, clever take and I love the reference to Keith Moon which so neatly fitted with the ultimate expulsion. If the heart had merely drummed like the mild-mannered Charlie Watts or genial Mick Fleetwood there would have been no kicking out of the student.
