Time for another Friday Fictioneers entry! The challenge is to write a 100-word story in response to a weekly photo prompt chosen by our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Follow the link to her blog for more information. Thank you to all who take the time to read, like, or comment.

We Flower

The note on my pillow read:

Stay in your room.
Lock the door.
Don’t go outside, no matter what you hear.
Tonight, We Flower.

I did as instructed, amidst the cacophonic revelry; the shouting, the singing, the drums, the howls.

Gods! Those howls!

The screams.

Spencer’s door opened and closed with a soft click at around 01:30. Evidently curiosity got the better of him. He hasn’t returned.

I’ll give him until midday before I make for the next town. I intend to arrive well before nightfall.

I have no intention of being caught under the light of the full moon.

Chilling story and I loved your descriptions. I wouldn’t go out either if I heard those noises – foolish Spencer! Nicely done.

Sounds like curiosity killed Spencer. There is something really chilling about the phrase “We Flower”.

Nice mystery and otherworldliness to this piece. Who is her benefactor, and did Spencer get the letter too, or is this some kind of killing, forgive me, i meant “culling,” process? Well done.
