Believing is seeing

Diggory positioned the mirror so that both himself and the cabin were within the frame. He glanced over his shoulder. The cabin wasn’t there.

“Believing is seeing,” Ava had told him, but he’d never wanted to believe.

He shuffled backwards until his reflected self stood in front of the cabin door. He reached back tentatively, finding rough, untreated wood, and a metal handle. Diggory fought every impulse to turn around and focussed instead on his reflection. He saw the tears he could feel brimming in his eyes.

“We have to do this,” he whispered.

The handle turned easily.

I like the description of him reaching back and touching the rough wood of the shed. And the handle. Chilling.
