Anahita

The girl, known to the locals as ‘Little Ana’, Burt’s orphaned grandchild, crept to the quietest part of the marina where the derelict ships were moored. She was an odd thing, they said; traumatised by the death of her parents. She played by herself and wore mittens all year round.

Confident she was alone, Anahita removed her clothes and slipped soundlessly into the water. Burt would disapprove, but she detested swimming costumes. The ocean’s kiss sent an electric current rippling across her skin, awakening her dormant scales. She dived effortlessly: webbed fingers and toes propelling her down into the deep.

A lovely story about a little mutant child, which would make a great film I did not expect her to turn into a mermaid! I guess the trauma brought out dormant genes. If we all had that gene we would look after the oceans much much better.

This is great, and there is a lot more story here. Is she a mutant, or does she have meremaid relatives in the sea?
