Fenced In

He bought the estate with his winnings and immediately erected an iron fence to keep out the riffraff. He employed staff to take care of his every need but insisted they be neither seen nor heard. Failure to adhere to this rule meant instant dismissal. He never had reason to leave. Let them keep their world and all its problems.

The morning he awoke with no breakfast awaiting him, he made a rare excursion. Beyond his kingdom’s perimeter, he discovered an even bigger wall had been constructed, with no visible way in or out. The world had responded in kind.
