I’m late to the Friday Fictioneers party this week. Mother won’t be pleased! The challenge is to write 100 words based on a weekly photo prompt chosen by our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Check out her blog for more information by clicking here. Thank you to all who take the time to read, like, or comment.

Mother
He found their camp close to his own, and there he found Mother. When he rescued her from the Dumpster all those years ago, he’d promised to protect her.
“I’m sorry,” he sobbed, tears falling onto her broken face. She was now the second mother he had failed.
“Stop that!” The rebuke both terrified and thrilled him: he could still hear her!
The sound of laughter signalled the imminent return of the teenagers.
“Those brats need disciplining. Be a good boy and see to it.”
He wiped his eyes and unsheathed his hunting knife.
“Yes, Mother.”
