It’s Friday Fictioneers time! The challenge is to write 100 words based on a weekly photo prompt chosen by our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Check out her blog for more information by clicking here. Thank you to all who take the time to read, like or comment.

Trolleys

“Which one?”

“What?”

“You said ‘relax, be yourself’. I’m asking which you’d prefer.”

He rolled his eyes. “God, you’re hard work.”

“I don’t mean to be. I just feel wrong sometimes. I’m like a trolley with a dodgy wheel, one minute I’m fine and the next I’m veering all over the place.”

“Tommy,” he sighed. “You need to decide what you’re more afraid of: being loved or being alone.”

I couldn’t. So he left.

Yesterday I asked a supermarket attendant what happens to trolleys with dodgy wheels. I can’t remember his answer. I guess I don’t really want to know.

I like the way you’ve continued the analogy of the trolleys to the point where he’s afraid of the answer in case it will also apply to him. Very nice!

Very clever, I feel for those trolleys tho, I now picture a number of trolleys thought to be damaged in a big trolley grave yard…. All they need is a bit of love.

Linking the ‘misfit’ to a trolley with a wonky wheel is a great analogy. Very thought-provoking story, brilliant. Not everything can be ‘fixed’, but some things can.

Thanks! The trolleys had me stumped at first. I just thought they looked lonely. It depressed me and I rolled with it!

I always think dialogue is a difficult thing to get right (especially in a 100 word story) so thanks for this feedback!

I concur; dialogue can be a general challenge.

Super take on the prompt, Thom. I’m sure a lot of people get to be that way.

Thanks! Everybody has ‘wonky’ moments now and again – I’ve had my fair share!
